Endovenous Laser Ablation is a minimally invasive treatment. alternative to traditional vein stripping which requires an incision at the groin. Endovenous Laser Ablation is an outpatient procedure done under ultrasound guidance. It can be performed under regional anesthesia to numb the treatment area and only a small opening in the skin, using a needle, near the knee or the ankle is necessary. The laser probe is passed into the diseased vein and energy is delivered to the vein wall causing it to collapse, sealing the leaking vein. Normal blood flow is then diverted through other healthy veins. Other clusters of large, dilated veins can be treated simultaneously using microphlebectomy techniques. These minimally invasive techniques provide symptomatic relief from the pain and symptoms of varicose veins leaving an excellent cosmetic outcome with minimal or no scars, short recovery and return to normal activity. Surgical Care Associates also offers the latest state-of-the-art treatment of reticular veins and spider veins using ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy and laser therapy. With our combined therapy and advanced laser systems, you will see noticeable improvements after one or two treatments.
Outcome from any procedure depends on accurate diagnosis and patient selection, i.e. chosing the correct procedure for each patient. Venous problems can be multifactorial and evaluation can be complex and requires expertise and special training. All patients receive a vascular evaluation by a Board Certified Vascular Surgeon who has completed vigorous surgical training and is credentialed to perform all aspects of venous surgery. Complete vascular ultrasounds are performed by a Registered Vascular Technologist in an ICAVL accredited lab (Intersocietal Commission for teh Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories).
